WELCOME TO DIABLO RAMBLERS #249

Bob and Diane Lundin

Diablo Ramblers is a chapter of Holiday Ramblers Recreational Vehicle Club and was organized in 1973. We are one of the chapters that make up Region VIII of the HRRVC. Our members live mainly in the upper Bay Area, East Bay and wine country. Campouts are usually the 3rd weekend of the month except for June, July and August when the International and Region VIII rallies take place. October is the state rally and in December, we enjoy a Christmas dinner.

Our official campout activities typically start on Thursday afternoon when many of the members arrive and go out to dinner. On Friday, there is a social hour followed by dinner as planned by the hosts and then games in the clubhouse. Saturday morning is breakfast together and followed by a short club meeting. In the afternoon, there is another social hour followed by a potluck dinner. Sunday morning is usually a continental breakfast and departures of many members. Some members arrive several days early and/or stay several days later to enjoy the surrounding area.

Campout activities might include games, area sightseeing & exploring, kayaking (several members have kayaks) and a good amount of relaxing, talking and enjoying each other’s company. Occasionally, we work on our rigs or help someone else with problems. We tend to be casual with regard to chapter activities so members may feel free to "do their own thing" during campouts. Most members are of retirement age or nearly so.

Members volunteer to be hosts and co-hosts for our campouts, choosing the campground, restaurants and potluck menus. Campground reservations are made by the hosts. They also furnish information about activities in the area, take charge of the coffee pots, decorate and arrange the dining area and collect fees from members for the campground.

We camp as far north as Red Bluff, as far south as San Juan Bautista, as far east as Plymouth and along the coast with 12 to 20 rigs attending. Several of us also get together and have a short caravan up north to Washington or Oregon.

Several club members also volunteer for state, regional and international rallies, assisting in parking the rigs as they arrive, lending a hand with registration or other help as needed. Large rallies also offer the opportunity to attend seminars on the maintenance of your rig typically hosted by the manufacturer. Factory technicians are usually available at International and Sunshine rallies to answer questions or fix minor problems or emergency issues – most often at no charge. This includes the Holiday Rambler technicians who are always extremely helpful and make the rally well worth the fees.

Chapter dues are currently $12 per year payable November 1st. A prerequisite to membership in the Diablo Ramblers is membership in HRRVC. Attendance at one of our chapter outings is recommended before joining. Feel free to call if there are any questions.
